About Me
My name is Monica Dunne. I became an Early Childhood Educator and started Dunne Childcare as I saw a need to embrace and develop a sense of curiosity in our children – as well as a sense play as we try different approaches. After all, sometimes we’re so focused on children getting it right we forget how to teach our children how to take (safe) chances and learn the value in getting it “wrong.” When we guide little ones through this enjoyable process, we teach them how to formulate a guess or hypothesis. “What do you think is going to happen when…?” We chart our guesses and move from there. Your child is in charge and takes an interest in what is going on around them, and will take great delight in trying it again… and again!
Of course, not everything we do is about learning – sometimes a painting of a pink, green and purple house is just that; a creative mind painting a house.
This past year I took up yoga and love it, I have incorporated a structured yoga class for children into the program. I perform Improv comedy with the Oakville Improv Company and am currently part of the comedy science-fiction podcast The Bigger Bang. Improvisation emphasizes collaboration and positivity, and many of these techniques have worked their way into my work with young children.
